Diversification is the Defense

Unlike Houston (energy) or Austin (tech), the Dallas-Fort Worth economy is highly diversified. The region's largest employers span healthcare, finance, defense, technology, and logistics. This structural diversification provides significant downside protection during sector-specific recessions.

Financial services, in particular, have seen massive growth, with major campuses for Charles Schwab, Fidelity, and JPMorgan Chase driving high-wage job creation in the northern suburbs.

The Corporate Relocation Machine

DFW continues to lead the nation in corporate headquarters relocations. The calculus for executives remains compelling: no state income tax, a central geographic location with a massive hub airport (DFW International), and a business-friendly regulatory environment.

However, the "cheap labor" arbitrage that drove relocations in the 2010s is eroding. Wage growth in DFW has outpaced the national average for four consecutive years, as companies fiercely compete for top talent.
